Family Constellations has roots that reach further back than Bert Hellinger himself. He spent sixteen years living among the Zulu people of South Africa as a missionary, immersed in their language and worldview. It was there he encountered a way of honouring ancestors, family, and the unseen threads connecting the living and the dead, principles that would go on to shape the foundation of this work.

This origin is rarely named in how Family Constellations is taught and offered in the West, and I want to name it here. This work carries wisdom that did not begin with Hellinger, it moved through him from a culture and people who are too often left uncredited.

I hold that origin with respect, and I want anyone coming to this work with me to understand where its roots actually lie.
